WHEN she quit SABC2’s soapie Muvhango,Thuli broke many viewers’ hearts – she was their favourite actress!
But at the time, Simphiwe Ngema said she wanted to grow.
Soon after she left Muvhango, viewers had the pleasure to see her once again on Vuzu’s reality show, Preachers’ Kids.
Now, the free-to-air TV OpenView HD eKasi+ channel will show Simphiwe in her new role as the presenter of Isiko, a show that documents Mzansi’s rich and diverse cultures.
This is Simphiwe’s first job as a presenter.
And the show sees her travelling the length and breadth of the country to meet traditional leaders and community members from various ethnic groups.
These include Va-Tsonga, Zulus, Basothos, Jews and Indians.
Simphiwe told SunBuzzIsiko has been an eye-opener for her.
“Shooting for the show has been a challenge and it’s made me a better presenter. My knowledge of culture was almost non-existent until I started this show.
“I’ve learnt how rich our country is as far as cultural diversity is concerned,” she said.
Viewers will see different cultural practices, traditions and dance forms.
“It’s been a learning curve and a beautiful experience for me. The show will also reveal how I’ve learnt and continue to learn about culture. Viewers too will be in a position to learn from my personal experiences.
- “We wanted the show to be real. It was interesting to go to places where I had to cover my shoulders or head,” Simphiwe said. Isiko premieres on eKasi+ channel 105 on OpenView HD on Sunday, 10 January, at 7.30pm.
