Cape Town - Two people have died in road accidents and an Eskom pylon has collapsed on a house roof, as stormy weather continued to wreak havoc in Cape Town on Sunday.
In the first incident, a woman died and another 11 were injured in an accident involving a taxi in Mitchell’s Plain, community safety mayoral committee member JP Smith said.

Two women had to be freed from the taxi.
He said a man in his 30s died in a separate accident on Sunday morning, after a head-on-collision occurred at the intersection of the N2 and Baden Powell Drive.
In a further incident, a traffic officer was recovering in hospital after a woman crashed into his vehicle on the N1 near the Ratanga Junction amusement park, due to the wet weather conditions.
“A female driver lost control of her vehicle, skidded on the water and crashed into him.”
Meanwhile, a family inside the house in Cherry Hills, Sunningdale, where an Eskom pylon crashed into the roof was being evacuated.
Smith said Eskom staff were on the scene as well as other officials. “We have been unable to confirm injuries.”
He said that the evacuation procedure was made difficult as “there are electrical lines everywhere”.
Cape Town is currently experiencing stormy weather conditions with high winds and rain. Much of the rest of the country, however, is undergoing dry and hot conditions – with reported drought in other parts of the Western Cape, Mpumalanga and Limpopo, North West and the Free State.
