MINUTES after leaving a matric pupil alone in a classroom, teachers and pupils returned to a gruesome discovery.
They found the girl had hanged herself!
On Friday, teachers and pupils were shocked to find the eighteen-year-old girl (18) dead at Petunia Secondary School in Heidedal, Bloemfontein.
Witnesses said it wasn’t clear why she killed herself. She took her own life in her mum’s classroom. Her mum is a teacher at the school.
Before the incident, she was preparing for exams with her mum in the classroom.
A fellow pupil, who didn’t want to be named, said: “She locked herself in the classroom and hanged herself from a projector with a tie.
After her mum found the door locked, she called other pupils and teachers for help.
“When we peeped through the window, she was still kicking. The teachers broke down the door and we called the cops.
“I was with her at break and she didn’t show any signs of being suicidal. She always spoke about becoming a teacher like her mum.”
When the SunTeam visited the family, no one wanted to comment on the incident. Relatives of the girl would only say their hearts were broken.
Education spokesman Howard Ndaba said: “We have sent a social worker and a psychologist to the school to counsel pupils and teachers.
“We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of the girl. May her soul rest in peace.”
Police spokeswoman Constable Joy Xaba said: “We are investigating an inquest docket after a pupil hanged herself at school.”
