WHAT was meant to be a day of celebration and happiness has ended tragically.
Award-winning actress Florence Masebe celebrated her birthday on Saturday – and lost her son on the same day.
Florence’s 18-month-old son, Mukololo, drowned in a swimming pool in the suburb of Bramley, Joburg.
Although the details of the incident are sketchy, different sources did confirm the tragic incident.
According to one of the sources, Florence was apparently in Bramley with guests celebrating her birthday.
The source said: “The child was playing and it was believed he was being watched, but he was found in the pool.”
When contacted for comment an unknown woman who did not identify herself answered Masebe’s cellphone and told the People’s Paper that she could not come to the phone.
“Florence cannot talk right now. She has just lost her child,” said the woman.
Florence starred in SABC 2’s Muvhango, where she was best known for her role as Humbulani; e.tv’s Scandal; SABC1’s Soul City; and in the South African film, Elelwani, which won her an award.
Joburg Emergency Services spokeswoman Nana Radebe confirmed that the department had been called out on Saturday afternoon.
“When the team arrived at the scene the child was already dead,” Radebe said.
