VERNACULAR language comedy is taking centre stage in Mzansi.
Comedians will represent our nine spoken languages at the Kings of Vernac Comedians Show at the University of Joburg’s Soweto campus on Saturday and at Pretoria’s State Theatre on 12 December.
The line-up will include top comedians like Roni Modimola and Salesman representing Sepedi, Kedibone Mulaudzi representing Tshivenda, Simphiwe Shembe and Jay Boogie representing isiZulu, Elton Mduduzi representing Ndebele, Themba Nhlapo representing Siswati and Franco Rihlampfu representing Xitsonga.
Chris Mapane will entertain in Sesotho and Brra Thabiso in Setswana. Tol S Mo will headline the show, dishing out jokes in isiXhosa.
The show will reveal the comedians as tribesmen.
Chris told SunBuzz they were proud of the idea because it has never been done before in Mzansi.
“People will get a chance to hear jokes in languages they can understand
“I think this will be funniest show.”
He added shows like these give audiences a chance to hear jokes they can relate to.
Premium Comedy’s Kedibone Mulaudzi said our comedians now feel comfortable about entertaining crowds in their home languages.
“They can now make an honest living with gags in their own language.”
