Following their tumultuous relationship dating back to season one, Ashes to Ashes super-couple Tsietsi (Nyaniso Dzedze) and Mpho (Nyalleng Thibedi) are set to make it official with a traditional wedding airing this week.
For two episodes, starting from tonight’s episode, viewers of the e.TV telenovela will witness a proudly Sotho wedding unfolding before their TV screens.
According to Thibedi the episodes were shot over a period of a week on a rustic farm in the Heidelberg district called De Hoek. The bride wore a breathtaking blue longsleeve tiered tulle Shweshwe gown, while the groom looked dapper in a matching double-breasted suit. Both creations were designed by Clive Morris Wardrobe Department.
“It was probably the most amazing period for the whole season for me. We went out on location. It was a beautiful Sotho wedding. I loved wearing the dress, it was breathtaking. It’s a very modern traditional wedding gown. I have never seen anything like that in my life. I seriously have never seen a Seshweshwe dress fused that beautifully with a Western wedding gown. The wardrobe department outdid themselves,” Thibedi explains.
“Personally, I would go for a traditional wedding. But also I hope the family that I would be marrying into would allow me to have my dream white wedding too. You know as ladies we all have a dream of wearing a white dress.”
Since the show’s inception last year, fresh-faced Thibedi has become a household name as the heroine on the show madly in love with the philandering Tsietsi Namana.
"Ashes to Ashes has been a goal in my career reached. This has absolutely without a doubt being my breakout role. I have played characters that have been more challenging, because I have a theatre background, but in terms of career movement Ashes to Ashes has been a highlight," Thibedi concludes.
